History of the Films
The film industry has developed over more than a century having some major changes in its production , stories and different elements.
The Late 80’s : The Introduction of Motion
In the late 80’s , movement was created using zoetrope , a spinning cylinder which gave an illusion of motion and along with that magic lanterns , an earlier version of modern day projectors which using a light source and a lens projected the images onto a wall or any surface. The films made at that time consisted of basic day to day life activities such as people going to work. It was filmmakers like Georges Melies who began using editing skills and special effects and created “ Trip To The Moon ” in 1902.
The Early 20th Century : The Silent Films Era
Then came the first 20 years of the 20th Century where film grew longer and more on the narrative side. Hollywood emerged as the center of the film industry and a rise to filmmaking was evident. In the same era , we witnessed some of the great actors like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton which without even sound carried the art of acting at that time. Moreover , the techniques were advancing such as closeups , lighting and setting designs were improving. Along with that , major studios were being made which were proved pivotal for the filmmaking industry later on.
The 1920-1930’s : The Introduction of Sound
The late 1920s - 1930’s brought a major event in the history of filmmaking , the introduction of sound. “ Jazz the Singer ” was the first movie where audience could actually hear the dialogues. The movies with sound referred to as “ Talkies ” were now replacing the silent films. Consequently , the 1930’s is often called the ‘ Golden Age of Hollywood ’ featuring classics like , The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind.
The 1930-1950’s : Colour and Technical Advancements
As the decades were progressing the technical elements of the films were put into great consideration and in this age , the more vibrant coloured movies including the Adventure of The Robin of the Hood were released. Now , the widescreen formats were used and genres like film noir , western and historical dramas became famous.
The 1960-1980’s : Hollywood and Global Cinema
By that time , the films were more often than not had the same genre and type. So the filmmakers now started to bring innovation and creativity in their work. Experiments brought realism and uniqueness in the movies and directors like Spielberg and Scorsese reshaped cinema. Blockbusters including Star Wars and Jaws revolutionized the industry. This was the same era where the cinema expanded beyond America and masterpieces started coming from Japan , France and India.
The 90’s till 2000’s : The Digital Revolution
At this point , the films evolved so much so that now Computer Generated Imagery ( CGI ) took over the scene and made animation and effects fan favorites. The rise of digital softwares said goodbyes to physical film in editing. This period gave us all timers like Jurassic Park in 1993 and Titanic in 1997. Furthermore , the rise of DVDs and home entertainment changed the way people watched movies as well.
The film industry took a full 180 degree turn in the modern day as the streaming service allowed people to watch the movies whenever they want , wherever the want and whatever they want to watch. Platforms like Netflix , Disney+ and Amazon Prime changed distribution forever. Films are now released both online and in cinemas and technology like VR and 4K are major upgrades from previous times. Along with that , the diversity of the content has reached its peak and every type of content is being produced. Franchises like Marvel , DC and Fast & Furious are dominant in the industry. Moreover , now filmmaking art has evolved to every corner of the globe and audiences have gone from just consumers to prosumers with the access to social media. The art has no boundaries and no one is limit to show their work and creativity.

Conclusively , the world has seen the films evolve from just a illusion of motion to digital blockbusters and the industry is ever growing and using technology , films have been impacting cultures and shaping the perspectives of the society from a long time and will continue to do that forever.
